Waiting out the last storm before we enter Barcelos and their 5-day festival

Today was our longest day and we are tired, but full.  The hat that was lost has now been found (was tucked a bit deeper than expected in the backpack) which was an auspicious beginning and so today’s mantra is “Gratitude.”

We got to try out our rain gear – Siri might become a convert to the value of a poncho – except when the strong winds come.  Tried to wait out the intermittent squalls, so left rather late at 10 am, but still not late enough.  Reasons to duck in a church, a bus stop, or a coffee shop.

We begin our walk with a person from Denmark and end with another from the Czech Republic. We take a detour up to a church and are rewarded with stunning views of where we have been and where we are going, and a filling lunch as we wait out another passing storm.  We light candles to remember loved ones who have passed away.

We arrive into Barcelos for the beginning of their 5-day festival of the cross. We are relaxing in a sunny corner room and can hear the band music down the street that will end with midnight fireworks. After a shower we will join the joyful crowds.

We are tired, and full, and blessed.
