Last day – at the zoo

Day 27:  Lisbon, Portugal – last full day

At the Lisbon Jardim Zoologic
Having fun at the zoo
Lots of peacocks and peahens walking around
Our teacher, Caroline, appreciating our fine tile work
Even in a big city, you can find some green spaces that the community uses for their front and back yards – lots of dog walkers and runners, a few picnics, one pair doing yoga, another trying out their Lindy hop moves, and the ubiquitous kiosk (two!) serving drinks and food
Our final church, next to the park and at the end of a tram line, made for an invigorating evening stroll to tackle our last few hills.

We know we have fully seen a city when we make it to their zoo.  The Lisbon zoo was fairly traditional “old style” with monkey islands with castles and ropes, and not as much natural habitat.  We enjoyed seeing the hoards of preschoolers with matching shirts and hats holding on to each other either in pairs or just the shirt of the child in front.  A lot of conservation education and even a cartoon video to show what you can do to combat climate change.  The highlight was the dolphin show – we didn’t make it out to to see the resident dolphin group in the Lisbon harbor, so it was fun to see these animals up close.

We head on home and start to pack to leave.  I take one last tram and bus ride during rush hour to pick up our now finished tiles and of course they are amazing – since we made them. :).   Now we just have to find a place to use them when we get home – one can only have so many trivets.

We have a relaxing evening stroll up and down the last hills of Lisbon and find a wonderful green space that reminds us of a mini central park, complete with a small pond, gardens and a gazebo for the band to play on weekends.

We take our last photos and head back home to get ready to  leave.

Tomorrow is traveling day and it is time to say goodbye to this adventure.
