Take a left at the three elephants …

Day 30: Elephant Nature Park, Chiang Mai Province, Northern Thailand

It isn’t elephants all the time here.  As weeklong volunteers we get to check out all of the activities – like dogs (one of the 800), petting cats (of the 3,000), visiting the local school where the staff send their kids  (from local hill tribes, refugees, and many without the proper papers), moving hay, and of course we have already talked about picking up poop (but that still is about elephants).

We decide to take the disabled dogs (most have been hit by cars) for a short walk around the park and are given strict instructions about where to go, which includes the not often heard directions – take a left at the three elephants and then a right at the mound of dirt (from the flood).  The dogs are sooo excited to leave their enclosures.

A full week of activities and hard to believe we only have one day left… I’m sure it will include more elephants.  Woohoo!

Happy dogs!
Our left turn
Hard work to move hay by hand
Fortunately, we had a good crew
Enjoying the local school dancers
And the kids in traditional dress
Many selling bracelets or other crafts
Our welcome from the older students in well practiced English.
Our typical “bus” to get around
And don’t forget the cats.
