We have tried taxi, Samlor (pedal taxis), Tuk-tuk (open air taxis, bike, subway and overhead trains, but we hadn’t really taken a full ferry boat ride. So, today is the day to hang out on the river. We left at 8 am and are just getting back now at 9 pm.
We start our morning with breakfast in the park – note there is a full size monitor lizard cruising byThere are a few rules that we have to abide by in the park – check out the fine for begging on the right sideWe start our hop-on, hop-off ferry ride for the dayYou have to be quick, they only stop for 1 minuteAnd we are offOne of our many stops is the old grand Palace on the other side of the river – still intricate porcelain cover the stuppas (chedis) Many Thai rent costumes to take formal photos in front of this and the other temples. This temple seems extremely popular with about a 50/50 mix of who is in traditional Thai costumes – many say it is the most beautiful temple. I say it is hard to compare.Even without traditional costumes – we join in the selfiesNotice the multicolored porcelain plates that decorate the side of this temple More monkey figures holding up the templeThis is one of the taller stuppas and it has a more Khmer or Cambodian style architecture than othersA photo of a photo to give you the size of the whole temple complex right next to the water. We continue our boat tour and next stop is the Hulk to encourage us to have some Thai teaThen it is off to the Flower market – these are all needed for the offerings and decorations And it is full of colorsAnd we see wholesale market going on, like these large baskets, full to the brim of flowersWe stop at the national museum where they show the mother of pearl inlay – here from an older temple door The detail on it is amazing and to realize that each piece has to be hand cut and inlayed on the woodWe get to see a showing of the Thai version of the Ramayana – the RamaikenTry to catch the sunset, but just get to enjoy the view from an 8 story shopping mallOn the bottom level they have food from around the country – here is their take on the floating market – we liked the surfboard in backI was intrigued that there was a whole store devoted to just durien – that foul smelling, but I think tasty treat.Having fun at the hat Christmas treeThe river at night is quite spectacular The light the temple we visited earlier and it is still spectacular The Royal Temple, Palace and nearby temple are all lit upHere are the four spires for the four kingsAnd we end the night on a rooftop bar
