We bike across Thailand! …the skinny way

Day 47: Khao Sok National Park to Phuket, and flight to Bangkok, Thailand

Our final full day in Thailand and we finish strong with an undulating bike across the country (well, sort of) on back roads through reminders of where we have been.  Gorgeous beaches, lots of farms, nice roads, small towns every now and then that pop up, and enough time to relax and enjoy the slow pace of the place – until the next hill.

We say good bye to our guides and our new friends from this past week and move into travelling mode with airport transfers and waits.  We have decided to just get to Bangkok and then rest for our long flight on Christmas Eve. We enjoy telling people that (due to the international dateline) we leave at 5 pm Christmas Eve and arrive at 5 pm Christmas Eve.

See you all soon.

We say goodbye to our ‘jungle’ glamping resort
We head to the East Coast of Thailand and see a little China town near the coast that has been around for over 400 years
Two fishermen trying out their luck in the drainage ditch in front of the large shrimp farm
Our first (!) sights of the East Coast of Thailand
We run to put our toes in the sand
Ahhhh
Finally, a beach with no wind and perfect for swimming, but alas, we must continue on, this is only a short stop
David tries out the local fare on the pier – would need a few to make a full meal
Great roads through palm tree lanes (but we do get tired of the very strong smell of rubber trees
After our coffee stop, we get instructions for the final part of the trip – all in the shade of course
One tricky part, we had to do a U-turn on a three lane highway – out two sag vehicles helped block traffic so we could make it across.  Here we are lining up to make the U-turn back across three lanes.
As I crest the, almost, last hill, we can see signs of the West Coast and the islands
We make it to the West Coast!  We officially biked across the whole country of Thailand.  Well just the southern narrowest portion. Back to the windy side and find lots of islands to explore on our next trip.
Heading to our boat transfer
Enjoying the blue sky day
Enjoying the boat ride and sunny skies
