Rest and relaxation

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Fairfield, Connecticut

We arrive in Fairfield, Connecticut at 2 am after a long drive across all of Pennsylvania through torrential rain.  After having just passed 6,500 miles on our Mazda CX-5 and six weeks completed of our nine week cross country trip, we are ready for a few days of much needed rest.

Fortunately, we arrive at my Brother-in-law’s house which has always been a good respite while travelling.  Usually it has involved sailing, kayaking, and long beach walks, but for a couple of days we have slept in, made a short walk to the beach, and made one adventure to the Best Lobster Roll in Connecticut.  OK, we couldn’t rest completely – we also stopped in at the PEZ factory – did you know that PEZ is short for peppermint in German? And that it was invented in 1927 as a way to curb smoking? This adventure just keeps getting more interesting.

We also get to reconnect with my nephew and his wife, who we just saw at the wedding, but as we have  found – it is always best to meet people on their home turf, and in small groups.  When the Cline’s get together it can be a bit overwhelming with all the relatives, so we appreciate the bit of one-on-one time we have gotten along this trip with many of our friends and family.

We start to plan our next phase which includes heading up to Maine to visit Acadia National Park with a stop in Mystic, CT and Newport, Rhode Island along the way.  We even have planned to catch up with friends we met in Bolivia, now living outside of Boston.

We are excited to start the next phase of our journey home.
