No one is a failure who has friends

Shaker Heights, Ohio to Chicago, Illinois

Siri and I have been blessed with amazing friends and family – and on this trip we have been able to visit several of them.  That has been one of the blessings of this adventure –  reconnecting with many of them in their own homes and being introduced to their family as well.  Some we met 40 years ago at college, others are from Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, while others were living and working with us overseas on Bolivia.

Our travels have been filled with memories and new stories.  We swap what has happened to us over the decades and all share challenges, losses, as well as achievements that remind us all that we have had a life well lived.

We get to have actually one-on-one time and don’t have to share with a larger reunion or other gathering.  We meet their amazing kids for the first time – and we are all surprised we now have adults for children. We get a tour of the local bakery where one adult child works, we try out the local brew pub, and we get treated to an authentic traditional Chilean barbecue complete with great music and a lovely chat in Spanish with their parents.

It reminds us of our life overseas and the times we did much more relaxed hanging out with others.  We re-commit ourselves to being better with these long-distance connections as well as striking up better local ones as well.
