Road Trip – the (possible) Routes

(Redmond, WA) Our next big trip is to drive across the country for two months to 1) go to a nephew’s wedding in Virginia; 2) Tandem bicycle some of the good parts along the way; and 3) enjoy visiting friends, national parks and everything else.

Part 1 – Washington to Virginia (via Route 66, New Orleans, +)

The first part is a 33-day, 16 state, cross-country excursion that includes stops in Bryce & Zion National Park, a portion of Route 66, a 5-day bike ride near Lafayette, LA (Cycle Zydeco), and then visiting family and friends in Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky with us arriving on-time for the fabulous wedding in Virginia.

Part 2: Virginia back to Washington (via Pittsburgh, Maine, Chicago, +)

The second part is 35-day, 17 state, cross-country return trip that includes a 5-day bike trip on the Great Alleghany Passage from Pittsburgh to Maryland (one of the top 10 rail-to-trail bike rides in the US), a visit with family on the East Coast, bike rides in Acadia National Park on the old carriage roads, and then stops with friends in Cleveland, Chicago, Minnesota, and finish up with Mount Rushmore and Glacier National Park.

We plan to do some regular blogs on this site along the way – so you can follow the adventure. If you have ideas of what we should visit, or better yet, if you live along the way and want us stop in – just tell us! Our route and timeline is fairly flexible.
