People along the way

June 2, 2026 – Clearwater to Squamish, BC

This morning  started with us meeting a couple from Ireland now living in Australia visiting Canada on their way to an Alaska cruise.  Yes, they also seem to have the travel bug.  We ended up sharing a table at a busy hotel breakfast place and an hour and half later, we were nearly exchanging home addresses.  In another hour we would have been swapping houses.   “We could be brothers from different mothers” he commented as he pointed out our similar age, close cut beard, and same color hair – which he did have much more of, I do have to say.  He was being generous.

But, one of my friends Mike told me I should take pictures of those we meet, so here you go.

A very nice Irish-Australian travel couple – our newest best friends

Then there was the boat driver/handyman that we met on Clearwater Lake.  We got most of his life story and how this is his newest retirement gig since his previous job of 10+ years was lost due to the Trump economy.  He  was the nicest guy giving us tips on the best canoeing and fishing places.

And there was the woman we met on the Squamish harbor walk and ended up talking to for almost an hour.  She gave us the development story of her cute town, which has now become very popular with lots of new expensive properties being built.  We found out she had been a guide at Wells Gray Provincial park and we then swapped stories of how amazing the waterfalls were.

And the list could go on – This is one of the joys of travelling – meeting locals and fellow adventurers.  I am reminded of how every one of us has a unique story to tell – and that I need to slow down and listen.

We also got some great dinner recommendations, trail hikes and future places to visit as well.

Juat outside Kamloops was the Secwepemc Museum which was well done and told stories of resilience and reclaiming their culture and heritage
I liked their “Word of the Day” exhibit
On the way back home we began to retrace our steps from two weeks ago.  This time the weather was fantastic and the mountains were spectacular.  Here is the same Duffy Lake we visited on Day 2 of our journey – clear skies!
Joffre Lake  – just a short stop
Beautiful clear day on the road with moutains all around us
The Coastal mountains just outside Whistler were incredible
In Squamish – the iconic Stawamus Chief Provincial Park – the view from our window
Sunset over the harbor
