Trails and views

June 3, 2026 Squamish, BC

We have been blessed with our warmest weather and clearest skies on the last full day in Canada.  We decided to do the tourist thing and took the Sea to Sky Gondola up the moutain and hiked all around without the effort of hiking up the first 3,000 feet of elevation to get here.

The views were spectacular, the trails were good, except one that was seemed more of a rock scamble than dirt, and we even met an Austrailan couple that seemed like us in 10 years.  They were just finishing a few weeks in a camper visiting the Canadian Rockies and then off to see their daughter who works on Vancouver Island.  He is also a guide for a 70 mile/5 day hike along the coast which sounds like a great next adventure.

We finished the day at nice restaurant right on the river that is a winter nesting ground for bald eagles.

“This could be the place for us, since it meets both of our critieria,” say Siri “It has great mountains for you and it is on the ocean for me.”

Watch out, we will probably be back to Squamish, this jewel of a place just across the border.

One of the many fun murals in downtwon Squamish – this is on the backside of our motel

Great trails and mountain views
Siri tries out the suspension bridge – no jumping
They have a viewing platform over Howe Sound below and the back side of the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park
Our view from the platform
“Welcome Gate” Created by local Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw artist James Harry, the monumental piece stands over 40 feet tall and serves as a striking visual landmark facing Howe Sound at Sp’akw’us Feather Park – with windsurfers and kite boarders in the distance
Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, Sea to Sky Gondola (and trails) and Shannon Falls – all impressive places
Final evening in Canada – a nice dinner and walk on the river and estuary which has Eagle nests all winter
